Who We Are

THE CROSS CHURCH EXISTS TO SPREAD GOD’S FAME BY MAKING DISCIPLES OF ALL PEOPLE.

That is the reason behind everything we do. We want to love God, serve others, and impact the world.

Our History

The Cross Church has been impacting Wylie, surrounding towns, and places around the world for nearly 153 years. It began in 1870 when a small group of rural residents started a church called The Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church of Nickelville. The church became The Missionary Baptist Church of Wylie at the turn of the century, moving from Nickelville to its present location. Relocating to be near the railroad depot enabled the church to reach and serve more people in this emerging community of Collin County. The name was updated again in 1942 to become The First Baptist Church of Wylie, and in April 2022, First Baptist Church of Wylie became The Cross Church. While much has changed across the decades, from attire, to worship style, building improvements, location, and even name updates, the mission of The Cross Church remains the same – removing barriers to spread God’s fame by making disciples of all people.

We care about you.

The Cross Church is a place where you can connect with people. We are not designed to go through life alone, and we believe this is a place where you can find lasting relationships—relationships that encourage you, challenge you, and bring you joy.

One of the best ways to get connected is to join a Growth Group. We have groups for every age and stage of life. While we prepare to provide an amazing worship experience every weekend, we say often that “if you can only come for one hour on the weekend, come grow in a group.”

We love kids and students.

We have services just for kids and students every weekend! At The Cross Kids (birth-4th grade) and The Cross Preteens (5th-6th Grade), kids learn about God in a way they can understand, with fun music and dynamic teaching designed just for them.

The Cross Students (grades 7-12) gather for student-led worship and messages that apply to their lives, while building solid, encouraging relationships with friends and leaders.

We want to help people move from hurting to healthy.

It can be difficult to navigate where to go and who to turn to when you are struggling and you need help. You don’t have to walk through a tough season on your own. Whether you’re battling an addiction, facing divorce, or need some one-on-one support, The Cross Church has a ministry for you.

We believe in serving our community.

Do you see your home, workplace, neighborhood, and city as a place to live out the mission of the Church? Just like we will find the broken-hearted, the disconnected, and the underserved right in our backyards, Hope for the Cities exists to reach the hurting and broken in our community.

Join us on a weekend.
